The NERA environment in ten words or less:
Results-oriented colleagues in relaxed surroundings.

On my career path:
I chose economic consulting because of the dynamic work environment and interesting business cases. I then looked to NERA, because it was the most prestigious firm out there. I was hired as a Consultant seven years ago and joined the start-up of the Rome office. It was a great experience, as everything had to be built from the ground up. Today, our office is well established and successful and provides consulting services on many areas (e.g., regulation, strategy, antitrust, economic policy) and covers many industries, (e.g., communications, electricity, gas, transport, finance, among others). I have grown with the office, and been promoted twice, first to Senior Consultant and then to my current position as Associate Director.

On my most interesting case:
We were hired by a large technology firm to study the impact of wrong regulatory decisions on the development of an innovative service. Our work revealed that regulators in some European countries took suboptimal decisions that affected the take off and development of the market of an innovative service. We developed an approach based on sound economic analyses (both qualitative and quantitative, through the use of a model in Excel) capable of assessing the impact of business, regulatory, and financial decisions on the development of innovative services. Our approach enables firms to lead the discussion with regulators, other competent authorities, and business partners.

On being challenged to learn and grow:
The work here always provides challenges from analytic, technical, interpersonal, and marketing standpoints. It has been extremely interesting to move from a primary focus on economic analyses to more substantial responsibility for business development. Clients show different needs and are challenged by different problems. Having worked for clients operating in several industries, I have had the chance to expose myself to different challenges and interact with different regulators and authorities to solve them. Moreover, I have had the chance to work abroad extensively.

What I admire most about my colleagues:
Their integrity, dedication, and hard work are second to none. It is a privilege to work with these people.

On the advice I’d give to a prospective colleague:
Be enthusiastic about and invested in the work you will perform. You will learn so much from collaborating with colleagues and challenging yourself.
