The Situation
Morgan Keegan & Company, Inc. offered a number of open- and closed-end funds prior to the onset of the 2007-2008 recent financial crisis. These funds included the RMK Select Intermediate Fund, RMK Select High Income Fund, RMK High Income Fund, RMK Strategic Income Fund, RMK Advantage Income Fund, and the RMK Multi-Sector High Income Fund.
The funds invested in a broad variety of securities, including mortgage-backed and asset-backed securities as well as other structured and corporate issuances. As the financial crisis ensued in 2007, the funds’ performance deteriorated.
