Demand Response via Critical Peak Pricing: Key Design Challenges

NERA Senior Consultant Amparo Nieto presented "Demand Response via Critical Peak Pricing: Key Design Challenges" to energy utility professionals across the US at the 2006 Spring Meeting of the Marginal Cost Working Group on 10 May 10 2006. In her presentation, Ms. Nieto discussed the role that Critical Peak Pricing (CPP) rates can play as an instrument for demand response. Her discussion focused specifically on the analyisis of the key design issues when setting CPP rates, with a close look at recent California CPP proposals. She explained the benefits of CPP rates but also their limitations as a cost-effective demand response tool.
