The Anuario de la Competencia (Competition Yearbook) provides contributions, both legal and economic, on the latest developments in Spanish and EC competition matters. In this article from the 2005 edition, NERA Associate Director Fernando Jiménez analyzes the extent to which there exists a "level playing field" in European energy markets, an issue that has garnered significant attention following the aperture and liberalization of the gas and electricity market in Europe. Mr. Jiménez supports the hypothesis that European gas and electricity firms do not face equal conditions to grow and position themselves in the future single energy market.
