Marginal Cost Working Group Spring 2011 Meeting
New York City
4 May 2011- 06 May 2011
Hosted By: NERA Economic Consulting
Directed by NERA Senior Consultant Amparo Nieto, NERA's Marginal Cost Working Group (MCWG) gatherings create a forum for discussion, allowing representatives of electric and gas utilities to exchange information and keep pace with energy industry developments and their impact on rates, costing, and resource planning. Membership in MCWG is especially useful to industry professionals as they face the need to address energy efficiency goals and increase reliance on renewable energy resources. The MCWG convenes two times per year to share research and test new ideas on marginal cost studies, tariff reforms, cost recovery mechanisms for renewable energies, smart grid cost-benefit analysis, and other emerging areas such as pricing for energy storage and demand-response mechanisms. Since its inception in 1982, hundreds of utility staff members from dozens of companies have participated in the MCWG.
Utilities considering joining the MCWG are encouraged to attend an initial MCWG meeting as a guest. The Agenda for the Spring 2011 meeting included, among others, the following topics:
- Critical Peak Pricing and Time-of-Use Pilots
- Consumer Behavior Study Results
- Performance Based Regulation for Electricity Distribution
- Electric Vehicle Rates
- Wind Integration Studies
- Lost Revenue Mechanisms
- Net Metering Roundtable
- Marginal Cost Basis for Demand Response Valuation
- Generation Capacity Markets
