Round Table on the UK Competition Regime
London, England
20 January 2012
Hosted By: the Centre for Competition and Regulatory Policy (CCRP)
NERA Director Mark Williams spoke at the Round Table at the Centre for Competition and Regulatory Policy (CCRP) on the future of the UK Competition Regime. Other panelists included Roger Witcomb (Chairman of the Competition Commission), Amelia Fletcher (Chief Economist of the Office of Fair Trading), Peter Freeman of the Competition Appeal Tribunal, and Bruce Lyons of UEA. The session was chaired by Professor John Cubbin.
The seminar debated the proposals to create the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) by means of a merger of the OFT and Competition Commission, including issues such as the role for Market Investigations in such a regime, as well as the ability of the CAT to conduct full "merits" reviews.
