This annual conference, hosted by the Rail Freight Group in London on 29 May 2012, examined how to deliver rail freight expansion and successfully compete with road in light of recent policy and regulation developments in the UK. NERA Associate Director Stuart Holder delivered a presentation entitled "Energy Sector Developments and their Implications for Rail Freight Demand." Mr. Holder summarized the energy sector's contribution to increases in rail freight traffic in Great Britain over the last 20 years, and considered the implications of future developments such as environmental constraints on coal-fired power stations and expected changes in coal and gas prices.
