Does the Age Difference Between Spouses Affect Their Wages?

Washington, DC
8 November 2012
Hosted By: Marsh & McLennan Companies and NERA Economic Consulting

NERA Economic Consulting and its parent company, Marsh & McLennan Companies, are co-sponsoring a series of lectures organized by The George Washington University's Department of Economics. The sponsorship of the lecture series showcases Marsh & McLennan Companies and NERA's commitment to highlighting the importance and impact of economics in business and regulatory environments. The second event, to be held on 8 November 2012 in Washington, DC, will feature a lecture by Dr. Solomon Polachek, Distinguished Professor of Economics at SUNY Binghamton, entitled "Does the Age Difference Between Spouses Affect Their Wages?" Gender pay differences are an important policy issue both to employers and employees. Dr. Polachek will discuss how the age of your spouse can affect both your and your spouse's wages, and how overall existing marital patterns in the US and elsewhere may affect gender earnings differences. After presenting his findings, Dr. Polachek will attempt to evaluate the effectiveness of proposed Fair Pay legislation and other legislative possibilities being considered by Congress.
