NERA Expert Discusses Rating Agencies Before the NAIC

The National Association of Insurance Commissioners invited NERA Special Consultant Dr. Jerome Fons to a public hearing at National Harbor, Maryland on 24 September 2009 that addressed the past and future roles of Nationally Recognized Statistical Ratings Organizations (NRSRO). The hearing examined the role of these credit rating agencies in the insurance regulatory system and what changes may be needed in light of the financial crisis. Dr. Fons' remarks focused on alternatives to the current rating agency model.
