The Public Investors Arbitration Bar Association (PIABA) hosted its 18th annual meeting in San Diego, California on 29-31 October 2009. On the first day of the meeting, NERA Special Consultant Dr. Jerome Fons was a panelist in a session entitled "Defeating the Rating Agency Defense." The panel addressed the failure of the ratings agencies and how to respond to the anticipated "investment grade" defense, including discussion of auction rate securities cases and arbitrations.
