NERA Expert Presents to the Committee for the Economic Development of Australia
Sydney, Austalia
14 October 2009
Hosted By: the Committee for the Economic Development of Australia
NERA Director Adrian Kemp delivered a presentation at a luncheon seminar hosted by the Committee for the Economic Development of Australia (CEDA) on 14 October 2009. In his presentation, "Moving Australia Towards a Single National Transport Market," Mr. Kemp noted that rapidly expanding freight demand and population growth was putting the road network under increasing pressure, creating a need for either significant new investment or better pricing to avoid the large costs associated with road congestion and increasing road deterioration as Australia recovers from the economic downturn. These pressures, in combination with almost zero productivity growth in Australia over the last five years, highlights the need to reform the way road infrastructure is provided and funded in Australia, to create a more flexible and responsive system that can respond to Australia's future needs. Other speakers at the seminar included Michael Mrdak, Secretary of the Federal Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, and Paul Sullivan, General Manager Strategy and Communications, National Transport Commission.
