Competition Policy and European Merger Control

Oxford, England
24 July 2007
Hosted By: the Oxford University Business Economics Programme

NERA Director and Head of European Competition Policy in London and Brussels Dr. Mark Williams spoke at the Oxford University Business Economics Programme (OUBEP) on the economics of competition policy and European merger control on 24 July 2007. The seminar, which was part of a series dedicated to competition policy, also included a keynote speech by Philip Lowe, Director General of DG Competition at the European Commission.

The seminar provided an overview of competition policy in the global economy, focusing on the three major strands of merger control, market investigations, and cartel enforcement. It also provided insights from competition policy enforcement at the European Commission, the US agencies, and national competition authorities such as the UK Competition Commission and the German Bundeskartellamt.

The OUBEP, formerly known as the Oxford University Business Summer School, dates to 1953, and is one of Europe's longest running and most prestigious executive education programs. With speakers drawn from current and past Oxford economics faculty, and visiting guest lecturers, OUBEP provides cutting-edge economics to business executives.
