NERA Expert Discusses Australia's Proposed Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme

8 June 2009

On 8 June 2009, NERA Associate Director Adrian Kemp was interviewed by Alicia Barry from ABC2 TV Business Today about how businesses in Australia are preparing for the government's proposed 2010 Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme (CPRS). Mr. Kemp noted that the CPRS, which will be one of the biggest pieces of economic policy infrastructure for Australia, has created a whole new avenue for competition. Environmentally innovative companies are investing heavily to make the most of opportunities, and heavy industry companies are carefully investigating the potential implications of the CPRS to their bottomline and how they can adopt more cost-effective and sustainable practices. Mr. Kemp stressed the need for flexibility in the CPRS design to adapt for future international carbon trade possibilities and to ensure Australia does not miss out on the opportunities this will create.
