Experience
Mr. Rusek participates in the Intellectual Property, Securities, and Transfer Pricing Practices at NERA. He holds an MBA from the Walter A. Haas School of Business at the University of California at Berkeley, where he specialized in finance and global management. He also holds a Master of Engineering from Cornell University in Operations Research and Industrial Engineering and a Bachelor of Arts from Cornell University in Mathematics. He has also earned the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and is a member of the CFA Society of San Francisco.
Mr. Rusek specializes in performing economic analyses on a wide variety of issues relating to damages due to the infringement of intellectual property, including patents, trade secrets, know-how, and trademarks. He has estimated intellectual property damages in matters involving the alleged infringement of patents in the biotechnology, medical device, mobile phone, pharmaceutical, semiconductor, and software industries. Mr. Rusek has significant experience in the valuation of intangible and intellectual property and has consulted on projects involving the valuation of companies for acquisition purposes. In addition, Mr. Rusek also specializes in designing and analyzing transfer pricing policies with a specific focus in dealing with intercompany transactions involving intellectual property.
Prior to joining NERA, Mr. Rusek was a Manager in Ernst & Young's Economics Consulting Group. While at Ernst & Young, Mr. Rusek gained four years of practical transfer pricing experience, with a focus on designing and analyzing intercompany transfer pricing policies for multinational corporations through the use of econometric, finance, and statistical techniques. He has worked on a variety of transfer pricing issues in a number of industries, including financial services, petrochemicals, retail clothing, and semiconductors. Mr. Rusek also has been integral in developing transfer pricing defense strategies for numerous clients in preparation for negotiation with both the US Internal Revenue Service and various European tax authorities.
