Experience
Mr. Evans is an expert in global financial derivatives markets; asset/contract valuation; trading practices in physical, financial, and hybrid instruments; risk management practices; and hedging techniques in financial and commodity markets. With six years of experience at derivatives trading businesses, and nine years of strategy, valuation, regulatory, and risk advisory work for major commercial firms, marketers, hedge funds, and global financial institutions, Mr. Evans offers his clients advice based on deep and diverse experience in derivatives markets and financial risk management.
Prior to rejoining NERA in 2009, Mr. Evans was a Director at Barclays Capital ("Barcap"), where he was Head of US Commodities Valuations and New Business. In this role, Mr. Evans led Barcap's valuations team, which was responsible for valuation model reviews, valuation controls, valuations testing, and business/transaction valuation support. He also was responsible for overseeing the controlled launch of trading in new derivatives markets, rollout of new index-based derivatives, investor notes, funds, and other products, and regularly conducted asset pricing, risk management, valuation, and other control analyses. Earlier in his career, Mr. Evans spent several years as an inter-dealer derivatives broker and a risk management analyst.
In his career at NERA, Mr. Evans has aided clients in litigation support across the derivatives trading sector, valuing physical and financial assets and portfolios, analyzing hedging strategies, performing market risk analysis, developing sound risk management practices, and assisting with acute commercial and/or regulatory issues. Mr. Evans has provided litigation support in many high-profile derivatives cases and testified as an expert in derivatives markets. He has been an expert in US State, US District, and UK High Court as well as alternative dispute resolution venues and administrative proceedings. He has calculated contractual damages in a variety of financial derivatives cases. He has advised clients on derivatives and energy market manipulation inquiries and enforcement actions (SEC, FERC, CFTC, DOJ, FSA, European Commission, and other Foreign Regulatory Bodies). He has conducted large scale independent investigations into alleged market manipulation cases in energy, commodity, interest rate, FX, and other product markets. He has issued reports and affidavits and made presentations to regulators based on his independent trading reviews conducted during an independent regulatory investigation. He has directed several risk management advisory engagements and is well versed in contemporary risk management policies, procedures, and derivatives trading controls.
