Experience
Dr. Montgomery specializes in securities, financial economics, and valuation. Most of his work involves the application of finance theory and econometrics in complex financial litigation and regulatory matters. He has testified on damages, materiality, prudence of investment decisions, costs of trading, and macroeconomic issues. He has consulted on numerous projects related to regulation of broker-dealers and to disclosure by investment companies. He has provided analysis for shareholder class actions, ERISA class actions, and insider trading cases. He has also analyzed issues related to banking and sovereign debt crises. His work has also included the analysis of high-frequency stock market data and market dynamics, the valuation of derivatives, and the analysis of investment portfolios.
Dr. Montgomery has extensive experience in finance, both the public sector and the private sector. He has worked as an economist specializing in financial markets and regulation at the Federal Reserve Board and the International Monetary Fund. At both institutions, his responsibilities included analysis of systemic risk in financial systems. Dr. Montgomery also has worked as both a securities analyst and an economist at an investment bank. In addition to his work in finance, he also has had experience in international economics and macroeconomic issues. He was a senior staff economist at the President's Council of Economic Advisers during the Clinton Administration.
Dr. Montgomery holds a PhD in economics from Princeton University. He also earned a BA from Yale University and an MSc from the London School of Economics.
