At the 19th Annual Forum of Statistics on 4 October 2004 in Monterrey, Mexico, NERA Vice President Dr. Kenneth Train presented "Recent Advances in Discrete Choice Analysis," a discussion about the latest developments in the field of choice modeling.
Using the current state-of-the-art models as a springboard, Dr. Train described the extensions and improvements that have recently become available. The advances arise in three areas:
- How the distribution of preferences among consumers is represented;
- How endogenous explanatory variables are handled; and
- How the log of the probability is simulated.
Advances in each of these areas were illustrated with applications to automobiles, cable TV options and other goods.
