John Scalf is an economist and expert witness with extensive experience in antitrust litigation and economic damages. He has worked across all stages of litigation—class certification, liability, competitive effects, and damages—and has analyzed claims of price fixing, monopolization, exclusive dealing, tying, and other forms of collusive and exclusionary conduct.

Dr. Scalf’s work across digital platforms, healthcare, financial services, and consumer products gives him a unique perspective on how competition issues manifest across rapidly evolving and traditional markets. He is known for translating sophisticated economic analysis into clear, rigorous findings for courts, regulators, and clients. He has submitted expert reports in US district court and arbitration and has presented economic analysis to the Federal Trade Commission and the US Department of Justice in merger reviews and conduct investigations. In addition to his antitrust focus, Dr. Scalf has worked on intellectual property and commercial damages matters, including licensing, lost profits, and reasonable royalty disputes.

Dr. Scalf earned his PhD in economics and MBA from the University of Chicago, with a concentration in industrial organization, and a BS in applied mathematics and economics from Yale University.
