Grant Saggers specializes in competition economics and regulatory strategy in the context of high value, complex disputes.

Mr Saggers has led companies successfully through matters involving market investigations, merger clearance, state aid, and abuse of dominance. Mr Saggers regularly presents expert economic evidence in regulatory hearings.

Mr Saggers is recognized as a Future Leader in Who’s Who Legal: Competition 2017 and for his expertise by Who’s Who Legal: Competition Economists 2016, where he is lauded for “strategic awareness and intellectual rigour,” and regarded by one source as “flexible, insightful and authoritative – a real asset to his clients.” In 2015, Mr Saggers also won the UK's consulting industry award for "Strategy Consultant of the Year" based on his work applying economics to corporate decision making and regulatory strategy. Mr Saggers' recent case work includes:

  • The lead economic advisor to companies involved in the Competition and Market Authority investigations into private healthcare, retail banking, and cement. Mr Saggers has also led economic advice to clients in studies in front of the Financial Conduct Authority.
  • The lead economic advisor on state aid cases in the restructuring of a postal services operator, a number of European banks, and a coal mining business.
  • Providing economics advice to a large petrochemical company facing abuse of dominance and cartel complaints.
  • Providing economics and strategic advice to public sector bodies negotiating multi-million pound pricing and funding settlements.

Prior to joining NERA, Mr. Saggers worked as a Director in the Strategy and Economics division of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in London and before this was a consultant in the London competition team of CRA International.

Mr. Saggers has three postgraduate degrees in economics, has written several articles on competition issues, and before he became a consultant, was a university lecturer in economics.
