Romero Tavares is an economic advisor and tax policy consultant with a career spanning 24 years. He currently serves as International Tax Policy Advisor to Brazil’s Confederação Nacional da Indústria (CNI), and in this role he represented Brazilian Industry at the BIAC-OECD and in the BEPS debate.

In Vienna, Mr. Tavares worked as Vice-President of Supply Chain Design, Tax & Trade for a USD 26 billion US-Singapore multinational conglomerate, and was an Advisor to the international tax affairs and treaty policy division of the World Bank Group, advising on economic growth and BEPS implementation in developing countries, treaty network development and tax policy.

Previously, Mr. Tavares was a partner and then a senior partner at two Big Four accounting firms, having developed a 20-year career in the US and in Brazil, where he held numerous leadership roles in areas such as international and corporate tax consulting, tax policy, and tax controversy.

Since 2014 he has been a Lecturer and Researcher (PhD/DIBT) in the Global Tax Policy Center and in the Global Transfer Pricing Center at Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien. His most recent book, “Multinational Firm Theory and the International Taxation of Entrepreneurial Risk”, will be published in 2018.

Mr. Tavares is a scholar with 33 articles, papers, and book chapters published; he holds a law degree from Brazil, an MBA in international business from the University of Detroit, and he attended numerous postgraduate programs in the areas of international economics, US and international tax law, and leadership at top universities such as INSEAD and Harvard Law School.
