The European Commission has been working on a tailor-made transparency and market integrity framework for traded energy and carbon markets. In order to develop this framework and learn from international experiences, the Commission is holding a series of workshops featuring a distinct group of experts. The first of these workshops was held in Brussels on 4-5 February 2010. The objective was to examine the full breadth of plausible and relevant abusive or manipulative behaviors that could occur on traded European electricity, gas, and carbon markets given the current regulatory landscape. NERA Vice President Dr. Sharon Brown-Hruska delivered a presentation on market oversight of traded electricity and gas markets and shared her observations on the US experience.
