NERA Senior Consultant Dr. Pedro Posada participated in a seminar on 16 April 2010 at the Instituto de Estudios Bursátiles (IEB), a finance and economics research and training institute in Madrid. The seminar focused on the application of economic theory and economic analysis within the area of Competition Law. Dr. Posada discussed the use of different quantitative techniques to analyze unilateral and coordinated effect in horizontal mergers, such as the use of simulations, and addressed the application of “Vertical Arithmetic” to assess the incentives for foreclosure after a vertical merger. Dr. Posada also analyzed different practical cases where these types of analyses have been applied. The seminar was part of the annual EU and Spanish Competition Law program at IEB in which different professionals participated, such as Juan Delgado, Chief Economist from the Spanish Competition Authority.
