London, UK and live webcast
28 November 2012
Hosted By: C5

The financial crisis has resulted in a sharp increase in the number of claims against financial institutions and professionals working in the financial services sector. This C5 conference, held in London on 28-29 November 2012, addressed the latest developments in regulatory investigations and litigation related to financial institutions in key jurisdictions around the globe. NERA Economic Consulting served as an Associated Partner for the event.

On the first day of the conference, Dr. Chudozie Okongwu, Senior Vice President and Head of NERA's European Finance, Litigation, and Dispute Resolution Group, and NERA Senior Vice President Dr. Vinita Juneja presented a panel, Economic Analysis in Financial Disputes: How Economic Experts Can Help in Regulatory Investigations and Financial Product Disputes. Dr. Okongwu and Dr. Juneja discussed simplifying complex financial product disputes; causation, liability, and quantum issues with examples using different products and securities; defending mis-selling claims involving subprime and RMBS; and responding to regulatory investigations with economic evidence and analysis.

The conference addressed a number of other issues as well, including: how in-house counsel are selecting and evaluating their outside counsel in the current economic climate; where financial institutions can expect an increase in regulatory investigations; and the latest developments in arbitration in this field and the benefits for financial institutions of using alternative methods of dispute resolution.
