Marsh & McLennan/NERA Economic Consulting Lecture Series on Current Economic Events: Digital Advertising -- Benefits and Costs

Washington, DC
16 October 2013
Hosted By: NERA Economic Consulting and Marsh & McLennan Companies

NERA Economic Consulting and its parent company, Marsh & McLennan Companies, are co-sponsoring a series of lectures on current economic events organized by The George Washington University's Department of Economics. The sponsorship of the lecture series showcases Marsh & McLennan Companies and NERA's commitment to highlighting the importance and impact of economics in business and regulatory environments.

This event, held in Washington, DC on 16 October 2013, featured a lecture by R. Preston McAfee, Director of Google Strategic Technologies. Mr. McAfee discussed experimental results on the effectiveness of internet display advertising (i.e., graphic images on web pages). His lecture considered three primary issues: whether the length of display time matters; whether it is more effective to switch ads during a page view; and the user cost of unwanted or annoying ads.
