NERA Vice President Dr. Sharon Brown-Hruska was invited to deliver the luncheon keynote address at the American Gas Association's (AGA) energy market regulation conference in New Orleans on 9 October 2014. The annual program examines recent developments in the regulation of physical and financial natural gas markets by the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). Dr. Brown-Hruska, a former CFTC Commissioner (2002-2006) and Acting Chairman (2004-2005), shared her insights regarding the CFTC's regulation of energy transactions today versus when she served on the Commission. She also discussed the challenges the CFTC faces in implementing the Dodd-Frank Act with respect to energy transactions, as well as the challenges the energy industry may face as the CFTC moves forward under new leadership.
