NERA Senior Vice President and Co-Chair of the Environment Practice Dr. Anne Smith testified today before the US House Committee on Science, Space and Technology regarding the potential impacts and energy costs of the EPA’s Clean Power Plan (CPP) to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from existing power plants. A NERA team led by Dr. Smith and by the Co-Chair of the Environment Practice Dr. David Harrison, Jr. was commissioned by the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity (ACCCE) to perform the analysis. NERA’s team used an integrated energy-macroeconomic model and up-to-date input assumptions from public sources. The analysis—summarized in a report titled “Energy and Consumer Impacts of EPA’s Clean Power Plan”—found that the EPA’s CPP rule would result in major changes in the US energy system and large overall energy system costs.
