The UK Energy Networks Association, representing the transmission and distribution network operators for gas and electricity in the UK and Ireland, hosted the Engineering Recommendation P2 Review Workshop 2016 on Wednesday 9th March, held at Church House Westminster in London.

NERA Associate Director, Richard Druce participated in the workshop, presenting the findings of a report he prepared for the Distribution Code Review Panel, P2 Work Group.

The Distribution Code Review Panel, P2 Work Group is charged with reviewing “Engineering Recommendation P2”, a planning standard that influences the amount of resilience that electricity Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) in Great Britain build into their networks.  NERA, as part of a consortium also involving engineers from Imperial College London and DNV GL, is providing a range of advice on the options for the reform of this standard.  The consortium’s work has covered a range of topics, including modelling the economically efficient level of reliability, accounting for embedded generation and storage in network planning, and the role of smart grid technologies.  NERA’s work has focused on developing an economic framework for assessing the alternative reform options, and assessing the interactions between P2 and other aspects of the regulatory framework facing British DNOs.
