Dr. Alan Cox will address a conference on “Economics in IP and IP in Economics” to be held at Renmin University in Beijing on 14-15 July 2016. He will discuss issues on the appropriate calculation of damages in IP matters and related issues in antitrust. Dr. Cox, who will be appearing as an expert invited by the USPTO, will also meet with judges of the Jiangsu and Guangdong High Courts.

Dr. Cox has been following and commenting on trends in IP enforcement in China for over ten years. He has made presentations to judges of the Supreme People’s Court, in-house counsel of Chinese companies and law offices in China and the US, and been a frequent speaker at conferences. In 2009 he published “Intellectual Property Rights Protection in China: Trends in Litigation and Economic Damages,” with Kristina Sepetys, one of the first papers to measure the average damage award for civil cases in China and the relative treatment of foreign firms by Chinese civil courts.
