NERA Economic Consulting hosted its sixth annual Financial Litigation, Disputes, and Enforcement Seminar on 5 October 2016 in London. This event included a keynote address by Mr Mark Steward, Director of Enforcement and Market Oversight at the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), and panel discussions with in-house counsel, litigators, and economists on emerging trends in financial disputes, enforcement, and investigations.

Programme topics included:

  • Financial services regulation, including perspectives from the regulator and external counsel.
  • Highlights from NERA’s recently published research report, “Trends in Regulatory Enforcement in UK Financial Markets 2015/16 Year-End Report,” and from our forthcoming 2016/17 mid-year report.
  • Follow-on litigation arising from regulatory enforcement actions, from the perspectives of in-house counsel, external counsel, and NERA economists.
  • Economic and legal views on alternative approaches to damages in financial and commercial disputes.
  • “Speed briefing” sessions in areas including the following: the use of experts in financial disputes; investor group actions; derivatives; and competition and antitrust issues in the financial services sector.
