NERA Auctions Analysis Cited in US Department of Energy Report

05 October 2017

The US Department of Energy (DOE) recently released its latest “Offshore Wind Technologies Market Report” on the state of the offshore wind industry. The report analyzes topics ranging from market developments to changes in technology such as floating turbines, pricing trends, and financing costs.

The DOE analysis of the substantial drop in pricing due to the introduction of auctions in Europe repeatedly references NERA’s research on the power of auctions as a tool for bringing down prices. Some of that research is explained in a report on optimal bidding strategies in renewables auctions written by NERA Director Daniel Radov, Senior Consultant Alon Carmel, and Analyst Clemens Koenig. Another NERA report, also cited by the DOE, examines the potential for real options theory to explain the low bids in the recent German auctions and implications for future bidding strategies. The report comes from NERA Principal Dominik Huebler, Daniel Radov, and Analyst Lorenz Wieshammer.
