Chantale LaCasse gave a speech entitled “Auctions and Procurement: New Directions” at the conference “Electric Power in the Soutwest.” Her speech was based on this presentation. The presentation reviews the use of auctions in the energy sector and explains the benefits of using auctions for utility procurement. The presentation studies in depth the case of New Jersey, where the four utilities worked together to procure their default service load through a single auction. Dr. LaCasse was the Auction Manager of the New Jersey auction.
