In a report published by the World Health Organization (WHO), NERA Managing Director Lucy P. Allen, Director Mary Elizabeth C. Stern, and Associate Director Jorge Baez, along with Frank George of the WHO, assess the economic impact of declines in asbestos production and consumption, and bans on asbestos use, as well as trends in those three areas and in the transition time away from asbestos. The authors analyze potential countrywide costs of banning asbestos and quantify litigation and remediation costs for past asbestos producers and consumers.
