Experience

Álvaro Ortega is an economist who applies economic analysis to regulatory issues in the energy sector. He has experience in the Spanish electricity and gas markets. Mr. Ortega has provided economic advice and support to investors on a wide range of projects including entry market strategy, decarbonization policies, and valuation of electricity asset portfolios. He has also participated in the quantification of damages for litigation cases in Spain and commercial disputes related to electricity and gas assets in Latin America.

Mr. Ortega has participated in the due diligence of energy-regulated assets. He has experience on projects related to the valuation of power purchase agreements and the operation of several electricity generation technologies. Recently, Mr. Ortega participated in several litigation cases for the remuneration of biomass and cogeneration plants in Spain.

Prior to joining NERA, Mr. Ortega worked at an economic consultancy in Madrid. He previously worked on applied economics in the labor and digital sector.
