Hong Kong
10 March 2014
Hosted By: the University of Hong Kong
NERA Vice President Sébastien Gonnet was invited to speak at the University of Hong Kong as part of the Intellectual Property Law course for LLB (Bachelors of Law). Mr. Gonnet delivered a presentation entitled "Economic Framework for Valuing Patents."
Asia -- notably China, Taiwan, and Korea -- hosts a growing number of large R&D intensive companies that file an increasing number of patents and employ aggressive strategies for buying, selling, and licensing large portfolios of patents. Furthermore, IP litigation has been surging in China in recent years, and Hong Kong has clearly stated its ambition of becoming an IP hub. In this context, Mr. Gonnet discussed the situations in which an accurate IP valuation is necessary. Leveraging from the vast experience and intellectual capital of NERA's IP practice in the US, he described the techniques to be employed for valuing IP in both a litigation and non-litigation context.
