Virtual Conference
15 September 2020
Hosted By: Forum Global
NERA Associate Director Hans-Martin Ihle will moderated a panel discussion on the coexistence of satellite and mobile services in the C-Band. One of the key issues on the agenda for WRC-23 was the future use of the 3.6–3.8GHz upper C-Band. The C-Band is seen by the mobile community as an important frequency for 5G. However, Africa still heavy relies on satellite communications in this band. With the lower (3.4–3.6GHz) portion of the band now allocated as co-primary for mobile across the region, attention is switching to the 3.6–3.8GHz portion of the band, with consideration of upgrading mobile services from secondary to primary status in the region.
