Managing Director and Securities and Finance Practice Chair Dr. Faten Sabry participated in the American Bankruptcy Institute’s (ABI) New York City Bankruptcy Conference on 10 June in a panel titled “Anatomy of a Hundred-Cent Case: Deconstructing Hertz and Garrett Motion.” She was joined on two panels by the Hon. David S. Jones, U.S. Bankruptcy Court (SDNY), Stephen E. Hessler, Kirkland & Ellis LLP, David Hilty, Houlihan Lokey, Andrew Dietderich, Sullivan & Cromwell, Philip Abelson, White & Case, and Brian M. Resnick, Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP.

Dr. Sabry and her co-panelists discussed how the cases of Hertz and Garrett Motion achieved substantial returns to equity holders. They highlighted the circumstances that brought these companies to chapter 11 and the value-maximization strategies employed, and the auction processes in each case. The panel also held a broader discussion regarding the potential impact of these two cases on future bankruptcies.
