10 April 2008
10 April 2008 -- New York/Auckland/ NERA Economic Consulting, a leading global provider of economic advice and analysis in business, legal, and regulatory matters, announced today that it has expanded its Asia-Pacific operations by opening two new offices in New Zealand -- one in Auckland and the other in Wellington.
James Mellsop has joined NERA as a Director and will lead the firm's business in New Zealand. Mr. Mellsop is a highly regarded economist who specializes in the application of economic analysis to legal issues, particularly in the areas of competition, regulation, fair trading, tax, and resource management. Mr. Mellsop will be part of NERA's Global Antitrust and Competition Policy Practice, but will also consult on matters in the telecommunications, energy, and securities sectors. Prior to joining NERA, Mr. Mellsop was a Vice President of CRA International and head of its New Zealand Competition practice.
Two highly respected Victoria University of Wellington professors, Dr. Lewis Evans and Dr. Neil Quigley, will be associated with NERA as Special Consultants. Dr. Quigley has extensive experience in providing advice as an economic expert in competition policy, strategy, and applied industrial organization. Dr. Evans has specialized expertise in the performance of state and private sector organizations, telecommunications, electricity, pricing and performance, and a range of law and economics issues related to contracting, governance, regulation, and competition law. Both professors were formerly associated with CRA International, and have previously worked with Mr. Mellsop.
"NERA is pleased to welcome James, Lew, and Neil to the firm," said NERA President Dr. Andrew Carron. "The Asia-Pacific region is an important growth area for the firm, and adding a physical presence in New Zealand -- especially one supported by such a talented group -- will be a tremendous asset to NERA and its clients."
The New Zealand offices add to NERA's presence in the Asia-Pacific region, which includes locations in Sydney, Melbourne, Shanghai, and Tokyo. NERA's New Zealand-based experts join their colleagues in the firm's network of more than 20 other offices around the world to offer clients a wide array of economic consulting services.
