23 April/New York -- NERA Economic Consulting, a leading global provider of economic advice and analysis in business, legal, and regulatory matters, announced today that Dr. Michael Baye has joined the firm as a Special Consultant in its global Antitrust Practice.
Until the beginning of this year, Dr. Baye served as Director of the Bureau of Economics at the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC). He is the Bert Elwert Professor of Business at Indiana University's Kelley School of Business, a position he has held since 1997. Dr. Baye's university research primarily focuses on pricing strategies in traditional and online markets, and their impact on consumer welfare and firm profits.

In addition to advising the FTC on antitrust, consumer protection, and economic policy matters during his tenure as its chief economist, Dr. Baye has consulted for and advised a variety of private parties and attorneys, and has provided expert testimony in matters ranging from advertising and pricing to mergers and monopolization. He has also provided written and oral expert testimony at the request of the Canadian Competition Bureau and the US Department of Justice.
Dr. Baye has held academic positions in the economics departments at several universities in addition to Indiana University, including Penn State, Texas A&M, and the University of Kentucky. He teaches courses in managerial economics and industrial organization at the undergraduate, MBA, and PhD levels.
Dr. Baye is a sought after lecturer and speaker at conferences and academic institutions throughout North America and Europe, and has held visiting appointments at Cambridge, Oxford, Erasmus University, Tilburg University, and the New Economic School in Moscow. He has published extensively on a wide variety of issues related to antitrust and consumer protection, and has served on numerous editorial boards in economics as well as marketing.
Dr. Baye holds PhD and MS degrees in economics from Purdue University.
