NERA Expert Ai Deng Awarded in Antitrust Writing Awards 2020

13 October 2020

NERA Economic Consulting is proud to announce that Associate Director Dr. Ai Deng has won the Concurrences Reader’s Choice Award for Best Antitrust Business Article in the Concerted Practices category. His article, “Algorithmic Tacit Collusion Is a Limited Threat to Competition,” was published in Law360 in 2019.

In his article, Dr. Deng addressed a recent study by four economists on algorithmic pricing and collusion, questioning how we should think about tacit collusion in general and the likelihood of algorithmic collusion in the real world. The article highlights how this important research can be extended to further the industries’ understanding of algorithmic collusion. Dr. Deng concludes by answering the question, “Can an algorithm learn to tacitly collude?”
