Ten NERA Experts Recognized in Who’s Who Legal: Arbitration 2021

New York—NERA Economic Consulting is pleased to announce that 10 of its experts have been recognized as leading practitioners in arbitration by Who’s Who Legal (WWL).

Who’s Who Legal: Arbitration 2021 singles out arbitration lawyers and expert witnesses renowned for their expertise in resolving complex international disputes. WWL’s research, along with nominations from peers and clients, identified 10 NERA experts as leaders in their field with expertise in both commercial and investor-state disputes. 

Seven NERA experts were included in the Expert Witnesses section:

  • Julie M. Carey, Managing Director, was identified by her clients as the “go-to for oil industry disputes” and was described as an expert who “possesses great command of the material at hand and demonstrates confidence in everything she presents.”

  • Dr. Christian Dippon, Managing Director, was described as an “incredibly thorough and easy to work with” expert who is “highly intelligent and able to understand complex telecommunications matters from a business, economic, and technological perspective.”

  • Dr. Richard Hern, Managing Director, was identified as “the first choice for quantum assessment” and described as “an absolutely fantastic expert witness” who is “excellent at cross-examination.” He was also praised for his “ability to engage in a constructive dialogue with the client and counsel” and his “very calm demeanour and razor-sharp responses.” 

  • Dr. Jeff D. Makholm, Managing Director, was described as “an outstanding expert in pipeline regulation” and a “really solid economist.”

  • Dr. Lauren Stiroh, Managing Director, was recognized for her “strong analytical and empirical skills in finance and economics.” She was described as a “highly qualified and experienced expert” who is “able to take a very strategic view of economic issues and distil them into well-articulated reports and presentations.”  

  • Mark L. Berenblut, Affiliated Consultant, was identified as “very knowledgeable, thorough, and diligent both in his written work and his oral testimony” and whose “reports and opinions contained therein are persuasive and compelling.”

  • Dr. Michael Rosenzweig, Affiliated Consultant, is an expert on finance, regulation, and energy. He specializes in restructuring, regulation, and privatization of state-owned utilities, and regulation of electric utilities.

In addition, three NERA experts were included in the WWL’s Future Leaders series as market leaders of the future and the top of their generation in international arbitration:

  • Tomas Haug, Managing Director, was described by his clients as “one of the best damages experts worked with” as well as “very thorough, always on time, and very intelligent.”

  • Erin B. McHugh, Associate Director, was recognized as a “very impressive” expert who “has extensive experience in valuation of financial products and business assets, and in the quantification of damages in arbitration proceedings.” She was “high[ly] recommended” by her peers and clients.
