NERA Consultant Dr. C.-Philipp Heller co-authored an article titled “Matching with waiting times: The German entry-level labor market for lawyers”, published in the peer-reviewed journal Games and Economic Behavior. The article addresses the question of how young lawyers are allocated to courts for the Referendariat, a form of legal apprenticeship in Germany. The article highlights flaws in the currently used procedure and uses economic theory to suggest ways to improve it. Similar allocation problems arise in the allocation of students to schools and universities or of children to daycare facilities.

This article was published in Volume 115 of Games and Economic Behaviour, released in May 2019.
