Dr. C.-Philipp Heller, et al.

Associate Director Dr. C.-Philipp Heller co-authored a chapter on quantifying damage for the book Economic Analysis of EU Competition Policy, edited by Prof. Pier Luigi Parcu, Prof. Giorgio Monti, and Prof. Marco Botta and published by Edward Elgar. The chapter focuses on the principles underlying damage quantification, with a focus on the damage caused by cartels. Dr. Heller makes extensive use of illustrative calculations using randomly generated data to show how the methods are used in real cases. In addition to covering the commonly used comparator approaches, he also explains how to build simulation models based on economic theory to estimate cartel overcharges.
