Experience

Dr. Sorin M. Sorescu is the head of the Department of Finance at the Mays Business School of Texas A&M University, a position he has held since 2009. Prior to joining the faculty of Texas A&M University, where he also holds the Ruby and Earle A. Shields Jr. '41 Chair in Investment Advising, Dr. Sorescu taught at the University of Houston and the University of Florida, and worked as an electrical engineer.

Dr. Sorescu is an expert on macrofinance, active portfolio management, and the informational content of security prices. He has been retained as an expert witness for the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in a case involving the alleged manipulation of security prices by traders. In addition, he served as an expert witness in two cases against a bank over its clients' losses from investments in a fixed income bond fund that was backed by subprime mortgages.

Dr. Sorescu has been recognized with the MidCon Award for Best Teaching Performance in the Executive MBA Program at the C.T. Bauer College of Business of the University of Houston and with the Dan H. Robertson Outstanding MBA Faculty Member Award, an award given to the faculty selected by MBA students as best teacher in the MBA Program at Texas A&M University. He was named the winner of the Financial Management Association's Award for Best Paper in Financial Institutions, and won multiple fellowships at Texas A&M University and the University of Houston. Dr. Sorescu has also lectured and spoken at numerous academic institutions and conferences throughout North America and Europe. His articles have appeared in publications such as the Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Marketing, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Financial Markets, Journal of International Money and Finance, and Journal of Money, Credit and Banking.
