Cameron Birchall provides expert analysis and advice to clients across New Zealand and Australia in matters involving the economics of antitrust, market design, and regulated industries.

Dr. Birchall has advised clients on the competitive and efficiency effects of proposed mergers. He has also provided analysis to an agricultural cooperative on how different auctions would best allocate licenses for growing rights and worked extensively in the regulatory space to advise clients across the telecommunications, electricity, and transport sectors. Notably, Dr. Birchall has advised regulated business on topics such as innovation, incentive mechanisms, asset valuation, cost recovery, uncertainty mechanisms, productivity assessment, and the necessary conditions to warrant deregulation. This advice has often resulted in reports being submitted to both state and national regulators such the as the New Zealand Commerce Commission, Australian Energy Regulator, and Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.

Dr. Birchall has an academic background in empirical industrial organisation. His thesis applied empirical models from industrial organization to problems in resource economics and retail markets. As a result of this academic experience, Cameron has expertise in demand estimation, retail pricing, public choice problems, and the pricing of tradeable permits.
