Matt Newell is a financial economist who specializes in projects at the intersection of finance and energy. Mr. Newell applies rigorous economic analysis to help clients solve complex economic challenges across international arbitration, valuation, risk modelling, and market design.

Mr. Newell has a particular focus on supporting clients in international arbitration, having worked on a range of international and commercial disputes before the ICSID, ICC, and other high courts. His recent work has focused on assessing quantum from government intervention and breach of contracts across various geographies (e.g., Europe, Latin America, and Asia) and sectors (e.g., public transportation, oil and gas, and real estate).

In addition to dispute work, Mr. Newell has experience building bespoke models to support companies in a range of areas including asset valuation, financial risk modelling, and cost-benefit analysis, with the aim of helping clients make well-informed investment and strategic decisions. He recently built a Monte Carlo risk model for a utility with a global renewable and thermal investment portfolio to assess its future financial risks.  

Mr. Newell is a Level 3 candidate for the Chartered Financial Analyst charter, which he applies in his valuation and financial modelling work.
