Class action filings are on the rise, fueled in part by the subprime and credit crises. To examine the latest developments in these cases, IQPC hosted this conference in New York City on 28-29 May 2008. NERA Senior Vice President Dr. Vinita M. Juneja chaired the first day of the conference, and Senior Vice President Dr. Patrick Conroy chaired the second. In addition, Dr. Juneja participated in a panel discussion exploring recent trends in securities litigation. The panel examined the growing number of civil securities cases going to trial; the implementation of the Stoneridge and Tellabs decisions in the lower courts and the implications of these decisions in the financial services industry; arbitration in the financial services industry context; and the latest developments in securities class actions. Dr. Juneja focused on the most recent data on securities case filings and settlements, and new applications of limitations on damages from Dura, offsets, and the use of multiple bounceback dates.
