NERA Director Benjamin Chee will lead the session “Community Renewable Projects on the Rise with Room to Grow” at the Renewable Energy Markets™ (REM) 2021 conference. Mr. Chee will examine issues surrounding community renewable energy projects, which have gained significant momentum in the US. He will explore why these projects are trending and will help inform future program design by taking a deep dive into current and best practices of program adoption. Mr. Chee will share insights and best practices that inform policy development, providing a deeper understanding of the issues surrounding the adoption of community renewable projects.

Community renewable programs provide access to renewable energy to segments of consumers that, historically, have been unlikely to have access, including renters and low-to-moderate income customers. Importantly, community renewable programs allow projects to be sited away from subscribers, enabling efficient siting based on the renewable resource’s location. Moreover, these community programs allow larger projects to be built, thus harnessing the benefits of greater economies of scale and higher capacity factors.

The annual REM conference convenes a broad spectrum of industry professionals who are rapidly transforming the global clean energy marketplace. For over 25 years, REM has remained the leading forum for promoting and accelerating the clean energy economy.
