Trademarks and advertising law are taking center stage where the Internet is concerned. In order to keep up with new and developing case law, industry experts convened at this Law Seminars International conference in Seattle, Washington on 20-21 September 2007. Participants discussed recent rulings from the US courts, the Federal Trade Commission, and the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, as well as international strategies for trademark registration and enforcement, the use of keywords in advertising, and other issues related to intellectual property on the Internet. As part of the conference, NERA Senior Vice President Dr. Kent Van Liere delivered a presentation entitled "Trademark Surveys: When and How to Use Them." Dr. Van Liere described approaches to conducting trademark surveys used to measure consumer confusion, secondary meaning, and dilution in trademark infringement cases.
