28 April 2008
Hosted By: C5
Leading practitioners in the field of securities litigation convened at this conference in London on 28-29 April 2008 to share expert advice on avoiding and resolving shareholder disputes. Two members of NERA's Securities and Finance Practice participated: Senior Vice Presidents Dr. Vinita Juneja and Dr. Faten Sabry.
Dr. Juneja spoke on a panel entitled "The Extra-Territorial Reach of the US: Assessing the Risk and Learning the Lessons from Recent US Securities Litigation." The panel addressed a range of timely topics, including the growing role of European institutional investors in US securities litigation and recent cases regarding the extra-territorial reach of US securities laws to claims made by foreign shareholders. Dr. Juneja presented the latest data on cases in the US involving foreign issuers as well as on the kind of analysis and information that can be used to help support limitations on class definition and class size.
Dr. Sabry participated in a panel discussion entitled "The Subprime Fallout: The Global Impact of the Credit Crunch on Securities Litigation." The session covered economic issues that arise in subprime-related lawsuits; loss mitigation strategies; current litigation; trends in delinquencies and foreclosures in the subprime market; and spill-over effects in the credit market in the US and Europe.
