Hong Kong
27 September 2011
Hosted By: the Hong Kong Society of Financial Analysts
NERA Senior Vice Presidents Mark Berenblut and Dr. Alan Cox were invited by the Hong Kong Society of Financial Analysts to present on "International Trends in Securities Fraud Litigation and the Impact on Chinese Companies" at a continuing education luncheon in Hong Kong on 27 September 2011. Mr. Berenblut and Dr. Cox discussed the economics of damages claims in lawsuits alleging securities fraud by directors and officers of companies (including Chinese companies) listed on US and other stock exchanges. Their presentation covered: recent trends in securities litigation in the US, Canada, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region, including the number of filings, types of allegations, sizes of settlements, and time before cases are resolved; trends in lawsuits filed in the US against directors and officers of non-US companies, particularly Chinese companies publicly listed in the US and other jurisdictions; and the economics of damages calculations in the US and the potential exposure of directors and officers to damage claims. They also presented case studies demonstrating the economic, financial, and accounting issues arising in securities litigations, particularly those affecting Chinese companies listed on the US exchanges through reverse merger.
